Mount Kenya UniversityAbstract
I am honoured to serve as the Chief Guest at the 23 rd Graduation Ceremony of Mount Kenya University. This is a golden opportunity to celebrate the victory of the graduands who are moving to the next phase of their lives in utilizing their acquired knowledge and skills to make positive contribution in the nation building. Therefore I congratulate all graduands, parents/guardians, the University fraternity, and all other stakeholders for the hard work that has brought us together this far. “Embracing Law, Science and Technology for Advancement of Climate Change Interventions” as the theme of today’s graduation ceremony is indeed, a timely input.Needless to say, Climate Change and the “greenhouse” interventions need a serious commitment because of the adverse disruptive effects to human ecosystems, operations, subsistence, wellness, and overall lifestyles. This then necessitates multi-faceted strategies and use of Science, Technology and Innovation in sustainable interventions as an obligation to all governments and their agencies across the world, NGOs, institutions of higher learning, business community, professional bodies, and all other stakeholders working together. The rise in research on “greenhouse” effects/ climate change mitigation is a vital input by universities and research organisations for bridging the glaring policy gaps in environmental education, consumer behaviour, rewarding and sanctions systems, legislation and government organizational support in climate change mitigation.
