Matumizi ya lugha katika siasa: umuhimu wa mielekeo katika Kuchagua lugha ya mjadala bungeni kwenye kaunti ya Siaya

The choice of language during the debates has been affecting the debaters in the parliament since they must choose the language wisely to defend their points to fulfil the needs and demands of the voters who send them in their specific parliament as their representatives. This research is aimed to unearth the truth of some of the basis towards the choice of language of debate by the members of county assembly of Siaya county of Kenya. To come up with the truth of this matter, four major objectives were put forward. These objectives included; to investigate whether attitudes of the debaters lead to the choice of the language to be used in debate in the county assembly of Siaya, to investigate whether there is a specific language preferred by the debaters in their debates in parliament in the county assembly of Siaya, to analyze whether the debaters of the county assembly of Siaya have a specific reason that leads them to prefer one language to the other in their debates in parliament by the debaters and analyze whether there are possible challenges that the debaters may come across in the use of Kiswahili language during the parliament proceedings in the said county. The theories of Reasoned Action of Fishbein and Azjen and that of Communication Accommodation of Giles guided the researcher to accomplish her objectives. The foundations of this theory gave the light to the researcher as she visited both the library and the field to gather information to come up with the truth of her targeted objectives. During the whole research process, purposeful sampling was employed together with deceptive methods of analyzing and presenting the data in the prose and clear language were utilized as per the set objectives. The knowledge acquired after the research will supplement the already existing knowledge on the basis of language of choice in the community. At the same time, the results of the study will be of great help to the political leaders of Siaya county and in Kenya as they endeavor to unite Kenyans of different tribes and traditions.
