Abstract

Professor Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha is a Kenyan playwright and a long serving educator. He has wide experience in scholarly engagements nationally, regionally and internationally. He started his life-long scholarly career at Kenyatta University and later joined Egerton University. He also served as a Research Professor at the Institute of Regional Integration and Development of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He is a renowned publisher. Born in 1952 in Migori County, he received his higher education at the then Kenyatta College when it was a constituent College of University of Nairobi, (now Kenyatta University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Kiswahili. He later joined Yale University and obtained Master of Arts in Anthropological Linguistics degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Kiswahili Language Linguistics. He was the first Chief Executive Officer of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) in Kenya where he served between 1995 and 2000. Thereafter, he served as the Executive Secretary at the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) between 2000 and 2010. Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha has served as a consultant for various organizations and he is a person of high-profile networks. He also served Mount Kenya University as a Pro-Chancellor. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Commission for University Education (CUE).
